House of Rock Advanced Camp: Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
Ages: 13 - 18
*Campers interested in enrolling in the Advanced Camp must have previous experience in a House of Rock program at Swallow Hill Music or must get approval by taking an assessment lesson with the camp director
The 2017 House of Rock advanced camp will continue its tradition of celebrating a pivotal artist in the history of rock music. Stop Making Sense is a 1984 concert film featuring a live performance by Talking Heads. Directed by Jonathan Demme, it was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theater in December 1983, as the group was touring to promote their new album Speaking in Tongues. The movie is notable for being the first made entirely using digital audio techniques. The band raised the budget of $1.2 million themselves. The title comes from the lyrics of the song "Girlfriend Is Better": "As we get older and stop making sense...". With such classics as "Burning Down The House", "Psycho Killer" and their arrangement of the Al Green classic "Take Me To The River", the House of Rock will learn and perform this classic material. Chances like this happen "Once In A Lifetime"!
Open to all instruments (including horns). Please note that we will need to limit the number of certain instruments per camp, most notably drums. If you have any questions, please contact Cheri Gonzales at 303-777-4394.
