Mr Sun (Darol Anger, Joe K. Walsh, Grant Gordy, and Aidan O'Donnell)

Mr Sun comprises three generations of some of the sharpest minds to apply themselves to the American String Band.

Legendary fiddler Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent, and is a member of the original "nuclear" generation of pickers who extended Bluegrass, Jazz, and Classical music to find their common ground. Joe K. Walsh is recognized as one of the foremost contemporary mandolinists, with 4 award-winning years in the Gibson Brothers. Joe has also won acclaim and affection for his vocals and his guitar and octave mandolin work. Grant Gordy is a standout in the crowded field of Acoustic Guitar Wunderkinds. Grant's work has been widely recognized for its kaleidoscopic excellence and startling emotion, fusing Jazz and Bluegrass concepts to an unprecedented degree. Aidan has established himself as a sought-after bassist.

The musical points-of-view in Mr Sun are so strong and personal that one might imagine the group could explode but for the palpable love and humor that emanate from every note they play. The group means to take a relaxed approach to rewriting its own chapter in the American Music Saga, with its latest recording on Compass Records, entitled The People Need Light.

They have performed at festivals and venues such as Wintergrass, Grey Fox, RockyGrass, Freight & Salvage, to name a few. The band is currently preparing to record their second CD.

Masontown

Denver, Colorado's Masontown, is a new young band with an enchanting sound that emerged from the hotbed of the Colorado roots music scene. The band is releasing their debut album In This Time on Oct. 13, 2017. The new album features mostly original songs such as "Cambric Shirt," "In This Time" and highlights the band's ability to shine on their individual instruments. "High-level musicianship and keen melodicism" "the picking sparkles all the way through both songs and instrumentals, and the harmonies gladden the heart."-Rambles.net

The band members consist of jazz guitarist turned flat-picking sensation Eric Wiggs (guitar/vocals), veteran bluegrass mandolin player and composer Mike Canney, fiddle champion and classical violinist Natalie Padilla (fiddle/vocals) and an upright bassist with roots running deep in the classical and jazz traditions Bradley Morse.

Masontown's sound is an exciting and eclectic take on the American acoustic tradition. Masontown "is grabbing the bull by the horns and making some of the most exciting acoustic music heard around these parts in a while" - Westword. At once fresh and familiar, the group unites the sounds of bluegrass, old-time, folk, and new acoustic music into a sonic melting pot that hearkens back to our deep musical traditions while remaining defiantly modern in conception. Masontown is a band on the move, driven to delight the ears, touch the hearts, and move the feet of generations of music lovers in Colorado and far beyond. "A young band all locked in as a unit, but not afraid to have a good time" - Glide magazine.
